Sudanese activist Rania Aziz, will share lessons learned about her nation's challenges and offer inspiration for how others can be part of building an inclusive solution. The people of Sudan inspired democracy advocates around the world after months of demonstrations forced Sudan’s long standing dictator Omar al-Bashir out of power in 2019. But the grassroots democratic transition was soon thwarted by other strongmen who seized power and then dragged the country into war in April 2023. Rania Aziz experienced this struggle on the front lines, first as a leader in the protest movement and then as part of the transitional government. She has since left the war-torn country but continues to advocate from the outside for an end to the war and a path towards inclusive democracy. She will share lessons learned about this difficult path and offer inspiration for how others can be part of building an inclusive solution.
